Elizabeth Wrist Warmers - Free Crochet Pattern!

CROCHET YOUR OWN ELIZABETH WRIST WARMERS

I've always loved the simplicity of wrist warmers. They keep your hands warm but her fingers free so you can used them when your driving or buckling up a squirming child. Being a mom these are super helpful. My daughters also love them and beg me to make them a new pair every year. I thought it was about time to share some new patterns with you. I am really truly hoping to do better with this blogging thing this coming year. But here is the pattern to make you or your daughter some cute wrist warmers this winter.

PURCHASE THE AD FREE DOWNLOADABLE PDF HERE ON: RAVELRY, ETSY

MATERIALS:
       H/8 (5mm) Crochet Hook
       #4 Worsted Weight
       Yarn Needle
       Scissors

KEY:
CH: chain
St(s): stitch(es)
Sl St: slip stitch
SC: single crochet
HDC: half double crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES:
Main Pattern Stitch: Place 2HDC in same stitch, skip next stitch, and repeat pattern. Make sure to HDC into the stitch and not around.

GAUGE: 8 HDC x 5 Rows = 2 inch Square
Create a 2 inch by 2inch swatch square using the 2HDC, skip 1, pattern.
  • CH 1 and turn, 2HDC in beginning stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next) repeat across until last 4 stitches, 2HDC in next, skip 1, and HDC in last 2 stitches
  • CH 1 and turn, skip beginning st, 2HDC in next, (skip 1, 2HDC) repeat across, ending with 1HDC in last stitch

Your swatch should be 8 stitches wide by 5 rows tall. If your swatch does not match this, you will want to use a different size hook. Use a smaller hook if your swatch is bigger than mine or a larger hook if it is smaller than mine.

YARN NOTES:
The yarn I used in my example for the wrist warmers was I Love This Yarn in Light Gray.

HELPFUL NOTES:
Joining: For this pattern you will not count your beginning chain as a stitch. Join with a Sl St to the first stitch (front and back loops) of every round. Always be sure to work the first stitch of every round into the first stitch of the previous round (which will be the same stitch that you joined).
Construction: These gloves will be made from the bottom up, starting with the ribbing.
Sizing: Pattern is written to fit three sizes, Toddler, Child, Adult. When following instructions, sizing is noted as follows: T/C/A
Skill Level: Easy - Beginner

Wrist Warmer Pattern.
DIRECTIONS:

Row 1: CH 5, SC in 2nd chain from hook and across (4)
Rows 2-20/24/28: CH 1 and turn, SC in BACK LOOP across (4)

Take both ends of the ribbing and Sl St the ends together. Now you are ready to work on the length of the gloves.

Rnd 1: CH 1 and SC across, join with Sl St into 1st SC (20/24/28)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2HDC in beginning stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next), repeat around until last st, skip and join with Sl St into 1st HDC (20/24/28)

Rnd 3: CH 1 and turn, 2HDC in beginning stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next), repeat around until last st, skip and join with Sl St into 1st HDC (20/24/28)

Rnds 4-8/10/12: repeat round 3 until row mentioned or until the glove reaches your thumb.

Now we will work on the thumb opening. The first round will be just like the previous only instead of joining at the end, you turn.

Rnd 9/11/13: CH 1 and turn, skip joining st and next, 2HDC in next stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next) repeat around until last 2 sts, skip 1 and HDC in last st, DO NOT join (19/23/27)

Rnd 10/12/14: CH 1 and turn, 2HDC in beginning stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next), repeat around, DO NOT join (20/24/28)

Rnd 11&12/13&14/15&16: Repeat the last 2 rounds (19/23/27)

Rnd 13/15/17: CH 1 and turn, 2HDC in beginning stitch, (skip 1, 2HDC in next), join with Sl St into 1st HDC (20/24/28)

Rnd 14/16/8: Ch 1 and turn, SC in each st across, join with Sl St (20/24/28)

This final section is another round of ribbing.

Row 1: CH 3/4/5, SC in 2nd chain from hook and across, Sl St in next 2 HDC on edge of sleeve (2/3/4)

Row 2: CH 1 and turn, skip 2 Sl St, SC in BACK LOOP in each SC across (2/3/4)

Row 3: CH 1 and turn, SC in BACK LOOP in each SC across, Sl St in next 2 HDC on edge of sleeve (2/3/4)

Repeat last 2 rows around the glove opening.
Sl St ends of ribbing together, fasten off and weave in your ends.
Repeat the pattern one more time for the sister glove and you are done!

Jonathan, Crochet, & Pikachu

Today would have been Jonathan's 27th birthday, my little brother, but sadly, he is not here with us anymore. On April 18, 2015 he past way from kidney failure due to improper care of diabetes. He wasn't quite 25. He had so much life yet to live but I guess it was time for him to go. When we were kids he was my best little buddy, we would listen to rock music, he introduced me to Disturbed and System of a Down, and he tried to get me to like the screaming music he called metal. I never understood his love of the pig squeal but he sure did. He was also the one that I knew would go with me to see the new, weird independent films that came out. I never did get to take him to Sundance, he would have enjoyed that, but we did have some great discussions about movies and actors. And then when I was 21 I moved to Arkansas and left my sister and brother behind and I started a new life with my husband so Jonathan's and my relationship changed. He was still always there to ta

Crocheted Barefoot Sandals

A few weeks ago one of my fellow crafting mommas saw some very pretty crocheted sandals that she wanted to recreate, and she was able to! She had never written a pattern before so instead she made a YouTube video.  I translated the video into a written pattern for your enjoyment. I take no credit in this pattern, it was designed by Adrienne Davis, I just followed what she said and wrote it in American Crochet terms that we can all follow. Here is the written pattern for Adrienne's Crochet Barefoot Sandals. I hope you enjoy!
